NEW DELHI: Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Friday met party president Sonia Gandhi at her residence in the national capital amid speculations of a possible cabinet reshuffle and other key appointments in Rajasthan.
After the meeting, Pilot said the Congress wants to strengthen the state organisation ahead of the assembly elections which will be held in 2023.
“It’s essential to form the government in 2023 again. The party will take decisions keeping experience, credibility, regional balance and caste combinations in mind,” Pilot said.
He also appreciated Sonia Gandhi for constantly seeking feedback on what needs to be done for the state.
“At the right time AICC general secretary in charge Ajay Maken will take appropriate decision regarding Rajasthan,” Pilot added.
Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot had on Thursday said that the Congress’s high command will decide on the cabinet reshuffle in Rajasthan. He too had met Sonia yesterday.
The Congress had formed a three-member panel for the resolution of the issues raised by the legislators led by Pilot, who had revolted against Gehlot last year.
Sources said the Congress is likely to follow “one leader, one post” formula in the cabinet reshuffle.
“There will be ‘one leader, one post’ formula in the cabinet reshuffle. Three senior members of Gehlot Cabinet are likely to be removed from their post as they have already been given responsibilities in the party. Rajasthan PCC chief Govind Dotasra, AICC incharge of Punjab Harish Chaudhry, AICC incharge of Gujarat Raghu Sharma are likely to be out in the reshuffle. They themselves have requested to work for the party,” a top source had told news agency ANI.
Currently, nine positions in Gehlot’s cabinet are vacant.
Sources said the Pilot is seeking cabinet berths for MLAs loyal to him.
