NEW DELHI: Padma Shri awardee and legendary Bengal weaver gifted a special sari to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Touched by his gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and thanked him in a post. He said, “Shri Biren Kumar Basak belongs to Nadia in West Bengal.”

“He is a reputed weaver, who depicts different aspects of Indian history and culture in his sarees,” he added.
The sari had a painting of the Prime Minister addressing the citizens.
In the 1970s, Biren Kumar Basak used to go door-to-door in Kolkata to sell saris along with his brother.
He started his journey with Rs 1 and now at least 5,000 weavers work for him.
