NEW DELHI: Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and also held discussions with AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Friday, as the party steps up its planning for Uttar Pradesh elections.
Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot also met the Congress chief to discuss the ministerial reshuffle in the state. In UP, the party is looking to scale up the campaign that started with Priyanka’s announcements of poll promises and election rallies in recent weeks. Baghel is the senior Congress observer for UP polls. While Baghel tweeted that he paid a courtesy visit to the Congress chief, and also met with Priyanka, they were understood to be related to the planning for state polls.
Meanwhile, Pilot’s meeting with the Congress leader is significant as he recently met AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, with discussions focused on Rajasthan affairs. Pilot is pushing for the accommodation of his loyalists in the reshuffle, an issue which is hanging fire since a compromise was struck between rival factions led by him and chief minister Ashok Gehlot. Pilot had rebelled with a group of MLAs last year which nearly brought down the state government. CM Gehlot met the Congress chief on Thursday.
